About Attachment Parenting

What is it?

Attachment Parenting is a parenting approach based on forming and maintaining a strong bond, or relationship, between a caregiver and child.  This ideal is realized, not through following a set of rules or methodologies, but rather through recognizing and responding to a child’s physical, intellectual, and emotional needs.  As a result, the child then has the ability to develop secure and enduring relationships throughout their lives.

What is it not.

- Attachment Parenting is not child centred living.
- Attachment Parenting is not permissive parenting.
- Attachment Parenting is not a method.
- Attachment Parenting is not 'all or nothing'.
- Attachment Parenting is not a cure-all.
- Attachment Parenting is not abnormal; hundreds of millions of people around the world practice or have practiced facets of attachment parenting.
- Attachment Parenting does not breed spoiled or clingy children. Our children grow up perfectly fresh and self-sufficient.

Is it for me?

Well, that is a personal decision between yourself and your spouse. We like to think that strong relationships are key in building strong families. How to build them between parents and children is what we are all about.
